Marma Points

Certain marma or pressure points can be massaged with the same essential oils used for aromatherapy to help activate certain organs and systems of the body. Each dosha is linked to a particular body location, and massaging the marma points there can balance that dosha. There are three main marma points:1

  • Between the eyebrows (vata-related)
  • Heart (pitta-related)
  • Lower abdomen, between navel and pubic bone (kapha-related)

Phana (situated a 1/2 finger width away from both sides of the nostrils) and Apanga (situated a 1/2 finger width away from the outer corners of both eyes) marma pressure points can help reduce stress when stimulated.1
