Recipes for an Ayurvedic Homemade Shampoo and Conditioner

Regular shampoos that contain foaming agents like sodium lauryl sulphate can strip the outer protein layer of the hair.68

This natural, Ayurvedic shampoo can easily be prepared at home:68

  • 1 tablespoon of soapwort
  • 1 handful of herbs (e.g., neem, alma, sandalwood)

Pour 1/2 pint boiling water over the mixture. Allow to cool, strain, and use liquid to wash your hair.

For the conditioner:68

  • 3 tablespoons of herbal oil suitable for head massage (e.g. bhringaraj or gotu kola (brahmi) to promote hair growth)
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar, lemon juice, or beer (to remove soap residues and make hair glossy)
  • 1 egg yolk (a natural protein to boost hair strength)
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • Few drops essential oils for fragrance

You can also add some yogurt to make hair softer. 68
