Stress and the Doshas

How we react to stress and its effects on our bodies is closely related to our constitutions in Ayurveda. Vata types are those most susceptible to nervousness and anxiety and tend to be more prone to heart disease and neurological conditions. Pitta types tend to be impatient, hot-tempered or overly critical and are prone to high blood pressure, infectious diseases, and inflammatory bowel diseases when stressed. Kapha types tend to internalize stress and are prone to overweight, cancer and diabetes.1
